Every year for the last 5 years, on Mandela’s birthday (18 July 1918), thousands of individuals, companies and organisations donate the gift of their time and resources to make a difference to those in need.
And this is not just the citizens of Nelson Mandela’s homeland, our native South Africa. 126 countries worldwide celebrate Mandela Day, with cities such as New York, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Paris holding events. This is the first year we celebrate and commemorate without this inspirational human being. Nelson Rohihlala Mandela passed away on 05 December 2013.
Little Hearts Foundation is a Non-Profit Organisation for children in need run by Ayesha Essack. Located in the township south of Pietermaritzburg, it houses up to 45 children, taking care of their daily needs. The children are fed, clothed and educated, and today, were blessed and joyously celebrated the legacy of the great Mandela.
The children were excited as we distributed the sweetie hampers, this special day had been long awaited. The Caltex Salutes Madiba poster flying high above their heads, the photos were snapped, marking this day in the memory of the young ones.
As the celebrations continued, Madiba’s memory was honoured by all, happiness, hope, and love shared among each and every child.
Team All Fuels – Caltex KZN South Marketer, thanks and credits the carers of Little Hearts Foundation for helping our youth attain their dreams. Let us all be a part of changing a life for the better, not just on Mandela’s birthday, but every day, changing the world one person at a time.
